The Importance of Keeping Your Car Clean

car wash, importance of car wash, car cleaning, car clean

Most people spend as much time in their cars as they do almost anywhere else. Being able to travel wherever and however you want is great. However with that freedom comes the responsibilities of keeping the car gassed up, changing the oil, fixing any damage and keeping the car clean. That last one usually gets ignored but its just as important as an other aspect. Here’s why.

Damage to the Paint Job

Dirt being on the outside of the car will chip, push against and scratch your paint job and if you leave the dirt there the scratches get filled and everything gets worse. As things like rain and salt stay in these cracks it can oxidise and rust the paint as well. The excess dirt can also clog the wheels and any other part of the car that has gaps in it. If you don’t wash the car every so often the accumulated dirt can make the vehicle ugly or worse.

Internal Rust

This is a more serious version of the paint job problem. Accumulated salt and dirt on the bonnet, the chassis and the hubcaps can actually compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle. It can make it less resistant to shock and more likely to break and crush in a crash scenario. In addition as the hubcaps rust and pit you will need to replace them. A full set of hubcaps is incredibly expensive and having them attached to the car can be even worse. Damage to the bonnet can even effect the engine.

If you leave the interior of your car with food, trash and drink containers things will inevitably leak rot and gather bacteria. As things get too far tainted there’s a danger of bacteria and even mould to grow on the cars interior. As you breathe in these things it does more than fill your nose with something awful. It can make you really sick, many diseases grow on mould and can infect human beings. All of this trouble just for picking up some AMC car cleaning supplies and getting the job done yourself.

Mental and Social Issues

Having an ugly filth filled and dirt coated car will get you judged. It will be seen as a basic inability to get yourself together. Prospective employers and partners will refuse to see you as an option and eventually this will begin to make you think badly of yourself as well. Its a physical indicator of how much care you’re willing to take of your posessions and in the world we live in that’s a status issue.

Having a clean car is not hard, its not particularly disgusting and all it takes is a little extra maintenance to get it done. For not doing this the punishment is a ruined car, illness and judgement. That’s not even a question.

5 Old Wives Tales About Growing Thicker, Glossier Hair

beer as shampoo, thick hair, glossier hair

An old wives’ tale is a term indicating a superstition or something deemed to be untrue and to laugh at by men. Old wives tales have been told for centuries, usually to warn people away from things rather than providing correct information. The tales usually concern urban legend, and were passed down from generation to generation. Many tales concern hair growth, particularly with growing thicker, glossier hair. BioThik has researched these old wives tales and have found five of the most popular ones regarding thicker, healthier hair.

Shaving Effects Your Hair Growth

It’s not true! Shaving has nothing to do with the thickness of your hair. There is  no evidence found of any effects on your hair growth after shaving, plucking, or waxing. The stubbly feeling after shaving your hair is caused by the alteration of your hair when it is cut short. However that feeling goes away and the hair becomes softer and lighter as it grows longer and is exposed to the sun.

One Hundred Nightly Brush Strokes Will Make Your Hair Glossier

False! Studies have shown that extensive hair brushing will actually damage your hair, rather than make it glossier. People who spend hours brushing their hair risk causing split ends. It is recommended to brush your hair for about a minute every night to help distribute the natural oils from you hair from roots to ends. This, as well as regular washing, will keep your hair nice and healthy.

A Half Inch Trim Makes Your Hair Grow Faster

Not true! Many people believe regular trims will make your hair grow faster, but it doesn’t! However, the good thing about a monthly haircut is that it eliminates split ends, making your hair grow thicker.

Beer Will Make Your Hair Thicker and Glossier

This one’s actually true! Because beer is rich in proteins and vitamins, and has natural barley and hops, it does contain nutrients for helping to develop healthy, thicker, and glossier hair. While beer does not help to grow hair, it does thicken existing hair. Simply let it sit in your hair for 3-4 minutes, then rinse it out with a sweet-smelling conditioner to get rid of the yeasty alcoholic smell.

Glossy Hair depends on the Season

Maybe! According to an old wives tale, hair grows slower in the winter, leaving it flat and dry. However, due access to the fresh fruit and vegetables in the summer season, the vitamins you consume contribute to your hair. It’s been proven that what you eat determines the condition of your hair, which means that comfort eating in the winter would lead to greasy, oily, flatter hair. During the summer months your hair is naturally and healthy looking.

Whatever the season or how long you brush your hair for, old wives tales should only be used as a guideline. Everyone’s hair is different, and it’s up to the individual to find out the best way to grow their thicker, glossier hair.

3 Days in the Hospital

We spent the last three days in the hospital due to Zyc suffering from stomach pain. And for that 3 days I have experienced the best health services so far. The nurses were efficient monitoring my son when it’s due. Doctors were, i guess careful of their diagnosis not  wanting to rush things and making sure of its accuracy. The facilities were really kid-friendly. I was even surprised with someone visiting, (I really don’t know what to call her) asking how are things doing and what Zyc and Ryz want for toys to play with during the stay. After a few minutes he got his Lego cars and tracks and she got a 300-piece jigsaw puzzle which we solved.  Food were delivered on time and yes, mine is free. I had a comfortable bed to sleep on and not just a cushioned bank, an extra bed for Ryz since she has to stay with me while huby is in Taiwan; it’s even better than a hotel! Hotels charge you for extra matress!

His first full meal

I know we pay for the health insurance and I could say that it’s just worth it. I never thought I could come out from the hospital without paying a single cent in my entire life!

Coming from a country where people die because they don’t have the money to buy medicine or for hospitalization I know I’m lucky to be living now in a country where health of its people are of great importance. I just wish Filipinos could also experience at least half of what I have experienced in a public hospital. But with the current issue on pork barrel scam involving the taxpayers’ money worth billions going to greedy politicians, when they could have been used to improve health services, education and other sectors where the public would greatly benefit, I guess for now it’s just wishful thinking.

5 Odd Treatments That Cure An Itchy Scalp

itchy scalp, relief from itchy scalp, cure for itchy scalp, scalpA dry, itchy scalp poses an annoying problem for many and may develop for any number of reasons. Under most circumstances, the symptom does not represent a serious condition requiring medical treatment. Numerous home remedies alleviate the problem. Staying well hydrated also helps scalp or skin dryness and ensures that all bodily systems have enough lubrication to function properly.

Lemon Juice

The enzymes and acidity of lemon juice eliminates bacteria that may cause dryness, irritation and dandruff. The chemicals within the fruit also trigger natural oil production and minimize dryness. The treatment merely requires cutting a lemon in half and removing the seeds. Rub and squeeze the lemon on the scalp in sections, ensuring that the juice makes contact with the scalp. Gently massage the juice into the scalp and wait 30 minutes. Rinse the juice from the hair and scalp using water. Repeat the process every other day for around three weeks. In between treatments, wash the hair with a mild shampoo.

The oils and components of mayonnaise not only moisturize the scalp, but additionally offer nutrients. Combine ½ cup of mayonnaise with one beaten egg. Mix the ingredients well. Liberally apply the mixture to the hair and scalp. Leave the treatment on the hair for a few hours or cover with plastic wrap and wear overnight. Remove the mayonnaise/egg treatment by shampooing thoroughly. Repeat the therapy at least two times every week.

Olive Oil

This common kitchen ingredient also conditions the scalp by protecting natural moisture. Heat the oil in a microwavable bowl for approximately 30 to 40 seconds. Apply the oil liberally to the hair and scalp. Massage the oil into the scalp vigorously for around two minutes. Place a warm towel around the head for 20 minutes. Shampoo the hair thoroughly with a mild product. Conversely, the treatment also works well at bedtime when covered with plastic wrap for the night.

Honey not only adds much needed moisture to a dry scalp, but additionally possesses antimicrobial properties that helps eradicate unwanted organisms. The banana adds moisture along with many beneficial nutrients. Mash two ripe bananas in a bowl. Add four teaspoons of warm honey and mix the combination well. Apply the concoction to the scalp. Leave the mixture in place for 45 minutes to one hour. Wash the hair with a mild shampoo. The treatment also performs well if left on and covered overnight.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil adds moisture and reduces dryness while offering antibacterial and antifungal properties. The oil not only eliminates dandruff, but also helps by minimizing flakiness and itching. Add 10 to 20 drops of tea tree oil to ½ cup of baby shampoo. Massage the scalp while washing the hair. Repeat the process daily until the condition shows satisfactory results. Deep treat the scalp by adding two or three drops of the oil to one tablespoon of warmed vegetable oil. Apply the mixture directly to the scalp. Cover the head with a warm towel for an hour or with plastic wrap overnight. Shampoo the hair. Repeat the treatment two to three times every week.

How Much Do You Need To Spend To Look 10 Years Younger: 5 Tips For Every Budget

shopping, beauty, beauty and shopping tips

Looking young and beautiful does not have to cost a fortune. When most people think of turning back the hands of time, they automatically assume that they will need plastic surgery or some expensive facial cream that they can only get from a doctor. While many people have had great results from plastic surgery and expensive creams, there is no reason for you spend the same money just to get the same results. There are five things you need to do if you are looking to appear younger without all of the extensive work.

1. Use Generic Brand Products

Believe it or not, most generic brand beauty products are just as good as name brand items. They normally contain the same ingredients and the same strength of ingredient to keep the skin looking young. By purchasing store name brands, you will find that you save a lot of money over time. Remember that you pay for the name when you purchase a name brand item found on store shelves.

2. Compare Prices from Different Stores

One of the best things you can do for your beauty budget is to compare prices for a variety of different stores. You might find that one store is having a sale on the exact product you need while another store is selling it at full price. Comparing these things in your daily newspaper is one way to ensure that you get the best price. If you’re opting for a botox from your cosmetic surgeon, make sure you research how much does botox cost online before your first visit so that you get an idea of what is the reasonable price.

3. Use Coupons

Using coupons for beauty products might seem a little too frugal for your tastes, but it will amaze you at the amount of money you can save just by using coupons. You can find coupons in newspapers, e-newsletters and even on the manufacturer’s website. Be sure to print these coupons out and take them with you when you are ready to buy the item in question.

4. Don’t Be Afraid to Return Items

Beauty products can often be returned for a full refund if you have a receipt for the item. If a product was not to your liking or if you bought something that simply did not work the way it was supposed to, do not be afraid to return it and get your hard-earned money back. Obviously, return policies will differ from one store to the next, but it does not hurt to try and return the item so that you can get back your money and spend it on something else that works better.

5. Look for Ingredients Rather Than Name Brands

Instead of staying loyal to one brand, look at the ingredients and ingredient strengths on the product. You might find that a lesser known brand has the exact same ingredient strength that a better known and more expensive brand has. For instance, retinol products come in different strengths and this ingredient is the same whether it’s used in a name brand product or a store brand item.

Cold Feet

I am having cold feet, literally. It’s been getting cold lately that slippers and thick socks aren’t enough for me. I even once wore leg warmers here at home. They say carpets help the room get warm as floors get cold during the season. Sadly, our carpet is not wall to wall and situated only in the living room. I work on the dining table (yup you read it right… dining table) and spend most of my time there so I could really feel the cold from the floor going up to my legs. I don’t know why we still have cold floors despite being in an attic… So I’ve decided to look for a footwear that could protect my feet and legs from cold and at the same time keep them warm.

Gladly there are house shoes available to keep up with the cold. Actually, I’ve seen many kinds of house shoes fit for the season. They are made of fleece, wool or fur perfect to keep the feet warm. Slip-ons or a thicker version of ballerina shoes are the most common. You can even see designs like Cars and Homer Simpson’s face on it. They are really nice and cute but I’d rather choose something that will keep not only my feet but my entire leg warm.

Good thing I saw this one..

keep feet arm, house shoes, fur boots, wool boots, boots for home, boots for winter

Although they’re not long enough to cover my entire leg, I could still feel warm inside. Of course it’s soft inside having its wool material, the kids even love wearing them. I’ve also seen something like these and a longer one but they’re knitted and the wool inside were kind of thin. I thought they re not enough to keep me warm and even not worth the price.

Keeping your feet warm during this cold season is important as this will prevent you from getting colds and having a flu and lowering your immune system.

My New Kitchen Buddies

When we transferred here in Aalen, we had to buy a whole new kitchen block since the house we’re moving in had no kitchen. One of our options was to buy a complete set, meaning with built-in appliances like oven, refrigerator and dishwasher. They will deliver this block and install them for you. Thinking that we’ll not be staying here permanently we didn’t get a complete one. Also we already have a secondhand refrigerator and just bought a separate dishwasher. We also found it cheaper if we buy them separately. We hadn’t bought yet our oven because it’s kind of pricey for us that time so we just reserved a block for it.

Now, as Christmas is approaching we’re planning to complete our kitchen. We’ll be likely adding a single block for extra working space and a cabinet. But to start with, we just bought some useful things we need in our kitchen. Since hubby and I are having this bonding time every Sunday, I thought we could use these to explore more in our food experiments. Hehe…

This is a glass-based chopping board and can also be a work space. Our kitchen is small and whenever hubby and I are both there, we couldn’t move freely because of the limited space. We placed this board on top of our dishwasher. Although we could also use the space on top of the dishwasher, we chose to add this board so we can directly chop or slice on it.

We love frying. Unhealthy right? Hehe… We initially got this since Zyc loves fries. And who doesn’t love fried chicken and spring rolls? Well, these were just some of the food I have cooked using this deep fryer. We couldn’t resist buying this because it went on sale, from 60 Euros to 39 Eeuros. Not bad considering its quality and who could resist a Tefal brand. Downside? Minimum oil used is 1.9L, so what I do after the first use is filter the oil and transfer to bottles for reuse. Well, it depends on where I used the oil.

From unhealthy, to healthy… This is my grill pan. I’ve also been looking for one since I saw one menu in the recipe book hubby bought me that needs to be grilled. I used to grill in our mini oven but this time I want to try out using this one. Hubby also loves grilled food so I want to cook one for him. This could also be useful for the sausages my kids and I love to eat, especially the currywurst.

There… These are my new kitchen buddies.

Creams and Lotions for Seniors

Caring for seniors is not an easy task. I know because I have witnessed it when my Mom was bedridden for almost two years. I hadn’t done it firsthand because of my body frame but I’ve seen how my Dad changed my Mom’s diaper. In this situation I knew my mom needs protection from any effects of her inability to clean up especially with her hygiene.

Using a protective barrier hand cream allows the skin to be moisturized and at the same time breathe. Often people who are bedridden develops dry, flaky skin and are also susceptible to pressure sores or bedsores. With barrier creams, these problems are prevented and can give the patient’s skin needed moisture. These creams may be applied in any part of the body, may it be on the hands, face, neck, legs, arms and even on their sensitive areas.

There are also products that indirectly prevent skin cancer by creating a thin layer of protection between their skin and the harmful elements in the environment. Anti-fungal creams are also available which will be very helpful since seniors can no longer clean themselves thoroughly. These creams can be purchased online at Aside from mentioned above, they also offer a wide range of skin care products and other things you need in caring for seniors.

High Hopes for Daddy

This came as a very sad news to me. My Dad seek for a second opinion on his condition due to persistent dizziness and the doctor said that he had a cerebellar stroke. A kind of stroke affecting the cerebellum which is the area of the brain that controls balance and movement. So that explains why my Dad can’t already walk on his own and has to be assisted.

I didn’t expect this to happen to Daddy. I thought his long walks and medicines can contain his health condition. We were just thankful that it was only a mild stroke and he was not hit at a popular part of the brain. We believe that he can still go back to his old condition. We are very positive about this knowing that my sister-in-law is monitoring his food. He’s now living with my brother since we can not let him go back to our home in Cubao. He lives there alone and no one will take care of him.

Daddy loves to move around. He always wants something to tinker on. But in his current state. he can’t do anything but sit or lay down. Big Bro gives him a massage and takes him for a walk when the weather condition’s good.

Haaay… I hope and pray Daddy gets well. We still have many plans for him. We still want to do things for him that we know he will be happy. We still want him to come here in Germany and see the country.

To Give Birth Here? Nah…

The first time I’ve been inside a hospital here in Germany was when I visited my friend who had given birth. I find the facilities friendly to anybody who comes. The location is so near in nature, away from the busy streets that’s why noise is not a problem. A parking space will not be a problem. Aside from the wide area, it also has covered parking for those who doesn’t want their cars to sun-bathe. The best part that I liked was their playground. I was so amazed on how the architects have thought of putting a hospital-themed playground. I mean, I haven’t seen one like it in our country. I’m pretty sure it would cost too much for the hospital.

A wooden ambulance with slide.

I asked my friend how is it giving birth here. Of course unlike what we are used to in our homeland, it was hard here. The mom needs to be independent. She was left alone actually the whole time she stayed there. Her husband is working and no one will tend to her kids at home but her mother-in-law. So the nurses are the ones taking care of her and her newborn baby. When we were there, two nurses in their dickies scrubs came in to check on her vital stats. I saw how they took care of her. One of them speaks English and she was also the one who took care of her when she gave birth to her second child. They were really nice.

Still I’m not convinced to have a child here. I’m so dependent when my body is not in its normal state. I really need assistance and I can not have that here. My kids of course need hubby to prepare everything for them and I can’t expect hubby to be there for me all the time.
